Carabineros detained five adults, all with police records, in an anti-drug operation at kilometre 163 of Route 5 Norte at Longotoma in the commune of La Ligua.[1] Officers seized 151 kilos of processed marijuana in the operation.[1] Officers acting on intelligence work intercepted a pickup truck carrying the drugs and driven by one of the detainees.[1] In follow-up steps, officers detained four other people travelling in two vehicles who allegedly provided surveillance to facilitate the drug transfer, and seized nearly 1 million pesos in cash.[1]

The operation was led by the OS7 section, in coordination with the Los Andes Prosecutor’s Office and with support from the Centauro Squadron of the Aconcagua Prefecture.[1] Petorca provincial presidential delegate Andrés Soza said drug seizures on the province’s routes had increased during 2026 thanks to intelligence work and police work, and said the government backed the work to break up gangs affecting residents’ quality of life.[1]
