Carabineros’ OS7 anti-drug section in El Loa province, Antofagasta region,
detained 29 people during October 2026, police said.[1] The force said the 29
were held for drug trafficking and included Chilean, Bolivian, Venezuelan and
Colombian nationals.[1]
The unit seized 2,200 kg of illegal drugs during the month, more than two
tonnes.[1] According to Carabineros, the haul consisted mainly of marijuana,
coca paste, cocaine hydrochloride and ketamine.[1] The 2,200 kg total covers
all of those drugs, not marijuana alone.[1]
Most of the drugs were intercepted in the border area, the force said.[2]
Officers also seized drugs during patrols, checks on passengers of
interprovincial buses and private vehicles, searches of homes and checks in
public streets.[1] The figures cover a month of separate operations across El
Loa, not a single raid.[1]

Open questions the AI reported
- The 2,200 kg is a combined total for marijuana, coca paste, cocaine hydrochloride and ketamine; no separate cannabis weight was published, so no cannabis kilogram figure is recorded.
- The 4,500 million peso valuation covers the whole mixed load, not cannabis alone, so it is described in the text but not recorded as a cannabis value.
- The sources report results for the whole of October and give no dates or places for individual seizures; 31 October is the announcement date used here.
- No names, charges, court dates or custody decisions were reported for the 29 detainees.
- El Reporte Diario's text closely follows BioBioChile's earlier report, so the two accounts are not independent.
- Neither page published a photograph of the October operations; BioBioChile's image is a file photo labelled 'Contexto', and the submitted page's lead image is titled 'portada-990' with no caption or credit.
- Both reports say the load was valued 'en el mercado legal' (on the legal market), an unusual formulation repeated here as published.
- The text gives a weight ("2,200 kg") but the figures have no kg_seized; check whether it belongs there.
- Left out, as its quotation was not found in BioBioChile: Carabineros' unit statistics put the whole load's value on the legal market at more than 4,500 million Chilean pesos.
