A man was detained when PDI detectives seized 62 cannabis plants and processed cannabis at a home in Diaguitas, in Vicuña commune.[1] The plants stood between 73 and 144 centimetres tall.[2] The PDI valued the plants and processed cannabis at more than 31 million pesos.[3]

The search was carried out by detectives from the PDI’s Microtráfico Cero (MT-0) unit and the Vicuña criminal investigation brigade (Bicrim), on instructions from the local prosecutor’s office.[2] The inquiry began with a complaint by the police unit itself, and detectives made what the PDI called a voluntary entry and search of the home.[2]

The detained man was an adult Chilean who was caught in the act and held on suspicion of an offence under Ley 20.000, Chile’s law against illicit drug trafficking.[3] The case was passed to the Fiscalía de Flagrancias, the flagrancy prosecutor’s office.[2] He was placed at the disposal of the Juzgado de Garantía de Vicuña, the guarantee court, for a detention-control hearing.[3]
