Detectives from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) raided a house in Dhaka’s Khilkhet Police Housing area in the early hours of 19 October.[1] The DB said a DJ party and drug consumption were under way when officers moved in.[1] Officers seized cannabis, yaba, alcohol and drug paraphernalia and detained 84 people, including 26 women.[1]

Additional Deputy Inspector General Abdullah Al Jahir rented out the house.[1] He had listed it for rent on Airbnb.[2] Co-host Mahbubul Alam, who helped manage the property, was among those detained.[2] Detectives said the house had hosted regular parties since 2025.[3] The DB said 20 to 22 such events were held each month.[3] The house was let for Tk18,500 a day, with each guest paying Tk600.[3] The seizure list recorded one yaba pill, a small quantity of a substance identified as kush and four bottles of alcohol.[3] A mobile court sentenced each male detainee to one month in jail and a Tk1,000 fine, and each woman to 15 days and a Tk500 fine.[3]

The home ministry suspended Jahir on 31 October.[4] The order said the raid and the news coverage had “severely tarnished the police force’s image”.[1] It called his conduct “unbecoming of an officer and contrary to departmental discipline”.[1] During the suspension he was attached to the Police Special Training School in Rangamati’s Betbunia.[1] He will receive a subsistence allowance.[1]

Jahir told The Business Standard the house had been rented for a birthday celebration and that both rental platforms barred drugs and alcohol.[4] The DB said Mahbubul Alam received 30% of party profits as commission and Jahir the remaining 70%.[3]
