The Department of Narcotics Control arrested 40-year-old Indian national Abhijit Das with 4.28 kg of kush, a cannabis-based drug, at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport.[1] He was detained at the Green Channel in the ground-floor arrivals hall on Wednesday afternoon.[1]
Abhijit, from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, was caught after a DNC team led by assistant director Md Abu Sayeed Mia of the Dhaka Metro North airport office took position at the Green Channel around 1 p.m. on a tip-off.[1] Searched before witnesses and airport agency staff, his trolley bag yielded the kush stashed beneath three Indian sarees.[1] He had arrived on Thai Airways flight TG-321 from Bangkok.[1] He told interrogators he works as a porter at Bongaon Railway Station in India, and the DNC says a syndicate uses such couriers to plant a new kush market in Bangladesh.[1] He had planned to stay two to three days, deliver the consignment and return to India through the Benapole land port.[1] Police were preparing to produce him in court.[1]
