A 40-year-old man, Mohammad Zakir Hossain, also known as Shaheen, was detained after a special team from Lakshmipur’s District Detective Branch (DB), the district’s detective police unit, found one cannabis plant on the roof of his building.[1] The officers acted on confidential information in Sonapur, Ward 1 of Ramganj municipality, at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, 31 October 2026.[1]

The search took place on the third-floor roof of an old, unfinished building described as belonging to the suspect’s paternal family.[1] The plant was growing in a pot, had green leaves and branches, and stood about five feet tall.[1] Officers recovered it at the scene and detained Hossain there.[1] Hossain lived in Ward 1 of Ramganj and was the son of the late Sekandar Mia and Sajeda Begum.[1]

Lakshmipur Additional Superintendent of Police Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said a case against the detained man was in the process of being filed.[1]
