Bistan police detained 34-year-old cultivator Tersingh, son of Juvansingh and resident of Dol Fata, Mahumandali, for allegedly growing cannabis on his field.[1] Police took him into custody and registered a case against him under the NDPS Act, India’s drug law.[1] He was produced before the Mandleshwar court on Monday.[1] Police records show an earlier NDPS case against him at the local police station, which a senior officer also confirmed.[1]
Acting on a tip that cannabis had been planted in Mahumandali, station in-charge Gulabsingh Rawat reached the accused’s field east of the Bijasan Mata temple with a police force.[1] Police said about one acre was under planned cannabis cultivation using drip irrigation to grow the plants faster and better.[1] Officers seized 2,230 green cannabis plants weighing 12 quintals 69 kg from the spot.[1] A second account corroborates the seizure of 2,230 green plants weighing 12 quintals 69 kg from the same Mahumandali field.[2] Police said the seized plants were five to eight feet tall, indicating the cultivation had been running for a long time.[1] The accused tried to flee on seeing the police team but was caught after officers surrounded him.[2]
Bistan police presented the action as part of its drive against illegal narcotics, with station staff including ASI Sudama More taking part.[1] After the seizure, local residents questioned why the police intelligence system had not detected a one-acre crop with five-to-eight-foot plants earlier.[1]
