Police arrested three people — Sagar, Arman and a woman named Anjali — during a search of the Kanjarpurwa neighbourhood in Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur.[1] The operation began at about 5 am on Sunday, 1 November 2026.[2] The three were caught as they tried to flee, and about 11 kg of ganja was recovered from them.[3][4]

The search was ordered by Kanpur’s police commissioner, with 135 officers in five teams cordoning the neighbourhood and watching it with drone cameras.[3][4] The force came from the Kidwai Nagar, Babupurwa, Juhi and Govind Nagar police stations.[1][4]

Some residents ran from their homes when police arrived and were caught in the cordon.[1] Police said they had acted on repeated reports that drugs were sold in Kanjarpurwa and that buyers came from outside the area.[2][4] Other teams kept searching during the operation, and police said they were trying to identify others involved in the trade.[2]

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said the three were being questioned and that the drive against the drug trade would continue.[1]

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ghatampur supervised the joint operation.[4] Police had watched the settlement for about 15 days before the raid, Hindustan reported.[5] Officers searched about 35 homes during the operation, Hindustan reported.[5]
