Police in Kitui arrested two suspected traffickers in separate cannabis interceptions reported by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on September 26, 2026.[1][2]

In the first incident, 24-year-old Dickens Tito arrived at Kitui Police Station carrying a parcel of rice said to be a meal for a remandee; officers on duty grew suspicious and inspected it before it could reach the inmate, peeling back the rice to expose 69 rolls of bhang together with 33 matchsticks hidden inside.[1][2][3] Tito was arrested at the station and the items were secured as exhibits.[1][3]

In the second incident, a multi-agency security team stopped a Public Service Vehicle travelling from Kitui towards Embu at a roadblock in Kanyonyoo along the Thika–Garissa Highway and found a pink briefcase in the rear boot holding 13 bales of cannabis sativa tightly wrapped in yellow sealing tape.[1][3] The briefcase was linked to 29-year-old Justice Kabila Njanja, who was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.[3]

Both suspects were kept in custody as investigators worked to establish where the narcotics came from, their intended destinations and whether other people were involved.[3]
