The Jayawijaya district prosecutor’s office in Papua Pegunungan destroyed case evidence with final court judgments, including 868.75 grams of cannabis, at its office in Wamena on Thursday 5 November 2026.[1] The destroyed cannabis weighed 868.75 grams.[1] The same destruction also covered 44.12 grams of sabu, crystal methamphetamine, which is not counted in the cannabis figure.[1] Officers also destroyed alcohol, sharp weapons, clothing and cosmetics seized in other criminal cases.[1]

Head prosecutor Ahmad Latupono said the narcotics evidence came from 28 cases handled to date.[1] He said the evidence came from cases handled by police in Jayawijaya, Nduga, Yalimo, Mamberamo Tengah and Tolikara, all in Papua Pegunungan.[1] He said the destroyed evidence covered cases from 2025 to October 2026 that had obtained final legal force.[1] He said every item destroyed came from a case with a final court decision whose defendant had already been sentenced.[1]

Latupono said this was the office’s first evidence destruction this year.[1] He said cases were collected and executed together rather than one by one to save costs.[1] Police, local government, Wamena Class IIB prison and other stakeholders attended as officials burned the evidence in the office courtyard.[1] Jayawijaya regional government expert staffer Natalis Mumpu thanked the prosecutors, police and courts, saying firm handling of narcotics and other crimes gives residents safety and peace.[1]
