Customs officers at Hurghada International Airport, led by customs director
Mohand Sami, made the seizure while inspecting passengers arriving on a flight
from a European country.[1] A search of one passenger’s luggage found a
plastic roll of green pieces and two plastic bottles, one holding a green plant,
all suspected to be marijuana.[2] The Hurghada prosecution is investigating
the seizure of a foreign passenger at the airport.[1]
The passenger was leaving the customs gate when Ahmed Waheed, head of passenger
inspection, suspected him.[3] His bags were passed through an X-ray machine,
which showed irregular densities.[3] Hall supervisor Mohamed Abu Bakr was then
tasked with searching the bags.[3] Customs officers Amira Ismail and Wael Ali
inventoried and sealed the find in the presence of customs security officials.[1]
Atef El-Sayed, head of the Central Administration of Customs for the Red Sea and
Southern Region, ordered legal measures and the filing of customs seizure report
No. 12 of 2026.[3] The seizure followed instructions from Ahmed Amawy, head of
the Egyptian Customs Authority, to tighten controls at airports and border
posts.[1]
