Customs officers at Hurghada International Airport found plant material in the luggage of a passenger arriving from Turkey before he left the customs area.[1] The passenger had flown in from Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Turkey.[2] A hand search of the luggage found a black bag hidden inside.[1] The bag held a green herb that customs suspected was marijuana.[2] Customs put the weight of the seized plant material at 55.5 grams.[2]

While officers inspected arriving passengers, customs officer Umm Hashim Amin suspected the man as he passed through the customs gate.[2] X-ray screening confirmed the suspicion.[2] The operation was led by Hisham Mahmoud Sharara, director of the airport customs office.[2]

Customs took legal measures, filed seizure report No. 9 of 2026 and held the seized material.[2] Officers Shireen Mohamed and Ahmed Omar Abdel Azim inventoried and sealed it under customs security chief Abdel Mohsen El-Shaeny.[2] The seizure followed instructions from Ahmed Amawy, head of the Customs Authority, and Atef El-Sayed, head of the Red Sea and Southern Region customs administration, to tighten control at airports.[2]
