Officers from the Kowloon West Regional Anti-Triad Squad, acting on intelligence analysis and follow-up investigation, joined relevant departments in an anti-drug operation at Hong Kong International Airport on 1 November 2026.[1] In the airport arrivals hall, officers intercepted one man and, after investigation, arrested the 22-year-old mainland man on suspicion of trafficking in a dangerous drug, and he was detained for investigation.[1]

Officers searched the man’s suitcase and backpack and found 30 packets containing a total of about 9 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds.[1] Police estimated the market value of the seized suspected cannabis buds at about HK$1.3 million.[1]

Police restated that drug trafficking is a serious offence, noting that conviction under Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Chapter 134, carries a maximum penalty of a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.[1] They urged the public not to carry drugs for trafficking syndicates for small rewards, warning that offenders risk their futures and face prison terms measured in decades.[1]
