Hong Kong Customs detected an incoming-passenger drug-trafficking case at Hong Kong International Airport on 2 November 2026.[1][2] The passenger was a 42-year-old mainland man who had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand.[3][2] During clearance, officers found about 5.1 kg of suspected cannabis buds, three products containing suspected Part I poison and 261 duty-unpaid cigarettes in his hand luggage.[3] He was charged with one count each of trafficking in a dangerous drug, possession of dutiable goods, failure to declare dutiable goods to Customs officers and possession of a Part I poison.[1][2] The case was to go before West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 3 November.[4][2]

Customs estimated the combined market value of the haul at about HK$1.06 million.[3][2] Customs said it would continue to step up enforcement against drug trafficking through intelligence analysis.[4] Trafficking in a dangerous drug is punishable on conviction by up to a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.[1]
