Officers from the Kowloon West Regional Anti-Triad Unit, working with related departments, mounted an anti-drug operation at Hong Kong International Airport on the morning of 1 November 2026 after intelligence analysis and investigation.[1] In the airport arrivals hall, officers stopped a man and searched the suitcase and backpack he was carrying.[2]

Inside they found 30 packets of suspected cannabis buds weighing about 9 kilograms.[1] Police put the estimated market value of the suspected buds at about HK$1.3 million.[3] The carrier, a 22-year-old mainland man, was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in a dangerous drug.[3]

He is being detained for investigation, with these accounts reporting no court appearance or further charge yet.[1] Police reiterated that trafficking is a serious offence, noting that conviction under Hong Kong’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, Chapter 134, carries a maximum penalty of a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.[1] Police appealed to the public not to carry drugs for trafficking syndicates for small rewards and warned that offenders face prison terms measured in decades.[1]
