National Police officers detained a 36-year-old man in the Norte district of Granada as the alleged perpetrator of a drug-trafficking offence after catching him on the street with a bag holding more than three kilos of dried marijuana buds ready for consumption or sale.[1] After noticing the officers, he tried to get rid of the substance but was quickly intercepted and detained for later referral to the judicial authority.[1]

According to police, the events took place in the early morning.[1] A patrol working in a crime-prevention and public-safety operation noticed his suspicious behaviour.[1] When officers approached, he acted evasively and tried to hide the bag he was carrying under a vehicle parked on the street.[1] After abandoning the bundle, he walked on trying to appear unconcerned, but officers stopped him a few metres away.[1] During the identification check, officers noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the bag and inspected it closely.[1] Weighing gave a total of 3 kilos and 130 grams, and officers seized the drug for later destruction.[2]

Police say he has four previous detentions and an active alert in force after a relative reported having had no news of him.[1]
