Guardia Civil officers patrolling a service area in Peraleda de la Mata, in the province of Cáceres, observed a 38-year-old man circulating on a bicycle.[1] He was travelling with a bicycle and a backpack.[1] When the cyclist noticed the police presence, he tried to escape cross-country but managed only a few metres before officers intercepted him.[1]

Officers then searched his belongings and located two plastic bags holding 935 grams of cannabis buds.[1] The intervention ended with his detention as a presumed perpetrator of an offence against public health for drug trafficking.[1] During the subsequent identity check, officers discovered he had a pending judicial requisition for search, detention and appearance issued by a court in Algeciras, in Cádiz.[1]

The force presented the episode as the most recent in a series of actions developed over recent months by the Guardia Civil at different points across the province.[1] Those different cases responded to different circumstances and did not form part of the same operation.[1]
