Officers of Special Response Battalion-14 arrested four suspected drug traders after searching a long-distance passenger bus in Ghatail, Tangail.[1][2] The detainees were named as 25-year-old Sakibul Hasan Roni and 30-year-old Md Raihan Uddin of Habiganj, 38-year-old Sonia of Narayanganj and 28-year-old Bonna Akter of Pirojpur.[1][2] An SRB member filed a case against them at Ghatail Police Station, and officers handed the four over to Ghatail police.[1]

Officers said they recovered 30 kg of ganja, wrapped in polythene and hidden inside three travel bags kept in the bus luggage box.[1][2] The bus, the Mymensingh-to-Panchagarh Akanda Express, was stopped at a special checkpoint set up in front of the Kadamtali LPG filling station on Tuesday night, when suspicious passengers were taken off and searched closely.[1][2] Officers also seized four mobile phones said to have been used to buy and sell drugs.[1][2]

SRB-14 Company 3 commander Md Shamsur Rahman announced the arrests in a press release at noon on Wednesday, 4 November.[1] He said the group had long collected illegal ganja from border areas and other parts of the country while posing as passengers and supplied it to different regions.[1]
