Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the police force for the capital, arrested 549 people and filed 57 cases during raids across Dhaka over a 24-hour period.[1] Ramna accounted for 30 arrests, Lalbagh for 46, Wari for 66, Motijheel for 51, Tejgaon for 75, Mirpur for 152, Gulshan for 69 and Uttara for 56, with four more by the Detective Branch.[2] The arrests were made during operations in different police-station areas of Dhaka on Monday 2 November.[1] Police said further legal action against those arrested was under way.[2]

During the same operations, police seized 29 kilograms and 200 grams (29.2 kilograms) of ganja, the local term for cannabis.[1] The sweep also yielded 128 yaba tablets and 19 bottles of phensedyl, alongside parts of two exploded cocktails, two litres of petrol, eight mobile phones and 36,380 taka in cash.[2] Police also rescued one victim during the raids.[1]

These are police counts in which the cannabis was recorded separately from the other drugs seized.[1] The sweep was part of DMP’s regular operations in the capital.[2]
