Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, dismantled an indoor cannabis plantation of 656 plants in a home facing an infant and primary school in Gavà, in the Baix Llobregat district, on 28 October 2026.[1][2][3] A couple aged 24 and 22 lived on the ground floor with their two minor children, one of them a month old.[1][3] Officers arrested the 24-year-old man as the alleged author of a crime against public health and another of electricity fraud.[1][3] The man’s detention was later lifted after he gave a statement at a police station, because of his obligation to care for the children.[1][4][2]

The investigation began with several complaints from neighbours about possible illegal activity in the home.[1][4][2] Officers from the Gavà investigation unit carried out the entry and search.[1][3] The upper floor was used entirely for the cannabis plantation, while the couple and the two children lived below.[5] The plants were in an advanced stage of growth.[5] Officers also found a fraudulent electricity connection feeding both the grow area and the ground-floor home.[1] The distribution company confirmed that the electricity bypassed every authorised meter and recorded high consumption.[1] The Mossos said they had removed the fraudulent connection.[6] The company’s report said 303,446.4 kWh had been defrauded between 23 July 2025 and 22 July 2026, a loss it claimed at €74,190.40.[1][3] Officers dismantled and disabled all the infrastructure used for the cultivation.[1]

The detained man’s partner was reported over the fraudulent electricity installation.[4][2]
