Two adult men were arrested in an anti-drug operation in the Pequeña Caracas sector of Estación Central in Santiago’s Metropolitan Region.[1][2][3] One detainee is Chilean and the other is a foreigner who was in a regular migration situation.[1][2][3] The PDI said both men had prior police records for offences linked to illicit drug trafficking.[1][2][3] Both men were placed at the disposal of Santiago’s Sixth Guarantee Court, where the Centro Norte prosecutor’s office charged them with drug trafficking.[1] The court granted the prosecution’s request for pretrial detention for only one of the two accused.[1] The prosecution verbally appealed the decision on the second detainee, whose custody will now be reviewed by the Santiago Court of Appeals.[1]

Detectives seized 1,204.16 grams of cannabis, described as equivalent to 1,204 doses, along with three mobile phones and a digital scale.[1][2] Police valued the seized cannabis at 5,120,000 Chilean pesos.[1] Investigators had identified two homes allegedly used to store and sell illicit substances and obtained judicial orders to enter and search them.[1][2] The suspects allegedly sold drugs in the sector and also supplied other small-scale dealers across Estación Central from the two homes.[1]

The operation took place on the night of Thursday 29 October in the Toro Mazote sector of Pequeña Caracas.[1] It was carried out as a scheduled inspection involving detectives from Bicrim Cerrillos, the PDI criminal-investigation brigade, alongside Carabineros officers and municipal staff.[1]
