The Quintana Roo prosecutor’s office said judges had bound five people over for
trial in narcomenudeo, or small-scale drug dealing, cases in Cancún.[1]
Francisco Javier “N” was sent to trial over supplying marijuana and ordered into
pretrial detention.[1] Luis Gerardo “N”, detained by state police, was sent to
trial over possessing marijuana for supply and also ordered into pretrial
detention.[2] Alberto “N” and Miguel “N” were detained by municipal police in
Supermanzana 256 and sent to trial over possessing cannabis for supply.[1] The
fifth person, Luis Alberto “N”, was sent to trial over possessing narcotics for
supply.[1]
The five rulings were obtained separately, after prosecutors presented evidence
in each investigation to judges.[3] The prosecutor’s office said the ruling
does not mean the five are guilty; the criminal proceedings must continue.[1]
The cases continue while the prosecutor’s office gathers and completes the
evidence needed to support the charges.[3]
The prosecutor’s office said the five cases formed part of its investigations
into health offences in Benito Juárez, the municipality that includes Cancún.[1]
