On the night of Saturday 31 October 2026, a Fiat Fiorino collided with a motorcycle at the crossing of Rua da Divisão and Avenida Eva Perón in Campo Grande, and its driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot before being identified.[1][2] The driver took advantage of the rescuers’ arrival to leave the scene and had not been identified.[3] Firefighters sent to help the crash victims noticed a strong smell of cannabis from the Fiorino’s cargo compartment and found numerous cannabis tablets when its rear door was opened.[1][2]

Military Police, joined by the Força Tática of the 6th Independent Company, secured the scene and took the vehicle and the drug to Denar, the Delegacia Especializada de Repressão ao Narcotráfico narcotics-repression unit.[3] Weighing at Denar confirmed 521.6 kg of maconha, the Brazilian term for cannabis.[3]

The case was then formally registered as drug trafficking at Depac Cepol, the Delegacia de Pronto Atendimento Comunitário community emergency station, while Civil Police investigate the load’s origin and seek the driver.[3] Police say they are still working to establish where the load came from and to identify and locate the driver who abandoned it.[3]
