Police arrested 41-year-old clinical engineer Marcelo Alves Namba in flagrante in central Campo Grande on the night of 31 October 2026 after he pursued a Military Police patrol car.[1] Tactical Force officers on routine patrol saw a silver Fiat Palio following their vehicle at high speed, honking and flashing its high beams insistently.[1] Officers said the car almost hit the rear of the patrol car, ran a red light and kept running red lights, endangering other drivers on the urban road.[1] They pursued the suspect and intercepted the car on Rua 15 de Novembro.[2]
A search of the vehicle found 40 grams of marijuana divided among three containers, a plastic pot, a market bag and the centre console.[2] The driver said he grew the herb and had authorisation, but presented no supporting document.[1] He admitted having drunk wine but refused the breathalyser test.[1] Officers drew up a finding of intoxication recording red eyes, alcoholic breath, exaltation and altered speech.[1] The car was removed to the Detran impound lot.[1]
He was taken initially without handcuffs to Denar, the specialised anti-narcotics station, for weighing of the drug, but then acted aggressively during transport.[2] He kicked the structure of the patrol vehicle, threw his body against its interior walls and shouted claiming he was being assaulted.[1] He swore at the team and made direct death threats against the officers and their families, saying he would go after each one as soon as he left prison.[1] Officers used moderate force to handcuff him because of self-harm and the risk of breaking open the mobile cell.[1] He was delivered with light abrasions to Depac Cepol, the community emergency station, where he remained silent during police questioning.[1] He faces proceedings for drunk driving, threat, contempt, refusal to provide identity details and drug possession for personal use.[1]
