A driver was arrested after failing a roadside drug test and allegedly assaulting a police officer outside a school in Bournemouth.[1] Dorset Roads Policing officers attended Hadow Road on the morning of November 3 to support schools with enforcement of the School Street Scheme.[1] The scheme creates a traffic-free zone outside schools at key times to make journeys safer for children.[1] During the operation, officers dealt with several road traffic offences.[1]

One driver became frustrated after being prevented from driving through the road closure to get closer to the school.[1] The driver was stopped by officers and failed a roadside drug test for cannabis.[1] Further checks revealed they were driving on a revoked licence.[1] The driver was arrested and subsequently further arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.[1]

A Dorset Roads Policing spokesperson said road safety is everyone’s responsibility.[1] The spokesperson said restrictions around schools are there to protect children, not inconvenience motorists.[1] The spokesperson asked all road users to respect the measures and play their part in keeping school communities safe.[1] Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.[1]
