On 9 September 2026, inland surveillance customs officers at the Le Boulou toll on the A9, on the Spain-to-France carriageway, checked a French-plated van marked for wheelchair passenger transport.[1][2]

The driver, alone in the vehicle, said he did not know what he was carrying.[1][2] Officers found large sports bags at the rear containing 263 kilograms of cannabis pollen; the Perpignan customs directorate valued it at more than two million euros on the illicit market.[1][2]

The man was held by customs, then handed to the Perpignan OFAST anti-narcotics office on prosecutors’ instructions.[1][2]

On 14 September 2026 the Perpignan judicial court tried him in immediate appearance and sentenced him to three years in prison and a €2,630,000 customs fine.[1][2] Customs said the case showed traffickers misusing disability-access vehicles to move drugs.[1]
