Bhanjpur police in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, arrested three alleged
interstate ganja smugglers after chasing and stopping their car near Laxmiposi.[1] Police identified one of them as 36-year-old Shrikant Bag of Uluberia in
West Bengal.[2] Police identified the second as 32-year-old Jagan Mahalik of
Sarishkatha village under Baisinga police station.[2] Police identified the
third as 39-year-old Rajesh Kumar Parida of Ward No 3 in Baripada.[2]
Officers seized about one-and-a-half quintals (about 150 kg) of ganja from
inside the car.[3] The suspect car bore West Bengal registration number WB 89D
0632.[2] Police also seized the car allegedly used for smuggling along with
lakhs of rupees in cash.[2] The final weight of the ganja and the exact cash
amount were still to be officially confirmed.[1]
Acting on a tip-off that a car was moving a large consignment, Bhanjpur police
set up a blockade near the Kendriya Vidyalaya on the Suvarnarekha canal road in
the Laxmiposi area and began checking vehicles.[1] Officers caught the suspect
vehicle after a chase, then searched the car and found a large quantity of
ganja.[1] Police are questioning the three in custody to establish where the
ganja was sourced, where it was to be delivered and who else is in the network.[2]
