A microbus carrying Indian cannabis plunged into a pond while fleeing a police
chase in Kasba upazila, a sub-district of Brahmanbaria district, on the morning
of 28 August 2026.[1] Acting on a tip-off about a large shipment, a team from
Kasba Police Station set up a checkpoint on the Syedabad–Nayanpur road in the
early hours.[2] When a black microbus ignored signals to stop and sped away,
police gave chase.[2] The driver turned onto the Andirpar–Monkashair road and
lost control while speeding through Khidirpur village, sending the microbus into
a roadside pond.[2] The driver and the other smugglers swam ashore and
escaped, and no arrests were made.[2]
Packages of cannabis floated to the surface, and police recovered nine sacks
from the water.[2] A crane pulled the microbus out of the pond in the
afternoon.[1] Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ali Mohammad Rashed said
the exact quantity of cannabis in the nine sacks could not be determined
immediately.[1] The vehicle and the seized cannabis were taken to the station,
and police said efforts were under way to find the fleeing suspects.[2] Legal
proceedings over the incident were under way, the officer said.[1]
