Spain’s Policía Nacional arrested the guard of a farm in Ayamonte, Huelva, as he tried to move about 600 kg of hashish in a trailer towed by an off-road vehicle.[1] The man was brought before a judge and remanded in prison as the suspected custodian for alleged membership of a criminal organisation, drug trafficking and unlawful possession of firearms.[2]
Officers seized more than four tonnes of hashish in total at the farm, which police described as a drug-storage point for a criminal organisation.[3] Investigators first found more than 1,000 kg inside the underground hide, and further searching of the farm brought the total haul to more than 4,000 kg.[1] Suspicion was raised by about 100 loaves of bread scattered on the floor where no animals were present to explain them.[3] Police said the hiding place was protected with firearms, including a weapon kept ready to fire live ammunition.[3]
The investigation began in 2024 into a criminal network operating in Huelva province that stored drugs at concealed premises, known as guarderías, before onward distribution.[3] Police say the network brought large quantities of hashish and cocaine toward the Huelva coast by fishing boats and high-speed launches, then ashore through the Guadiana river for transport to Spain and other European countries.[3]
