Nine marijuana packs and 158 doses seized in Cartago
Fuerza Pública officers seized nine packs and 158 doses of suspected marijuana plus cash at the Miraflores dike in Taras, Cartago, after three suspects fled. The mixed seizure also contained crack, cocaine, tusi and ecstasy and was handed to judicial authorities.

One man held in Grecia as Costa Rica Halloween operation seizes cannabis
Costa Rica's Fuerza Pública detained a man in Grecia, Alajuela, on the first night of its Halloween operation after police said he was carrying marijuana, cocaine and crack, and seized the same three drugs and ₡655,000 in cash in Palmares. The operation deployed 1,500 officers for Halloween and the Día de la Mascarada Costarricense.

During a preventive patrol on 26 October 2026 Costa Rica’s border police, air surveillance and drug-control police, under Liberia prosecutors, raided a Cañas Dulces property used as a cannabis nursery, seized 197 plants and 50 kg of processed material and held a 40-year-old Colombian suspect named Samboni.

Indoor cannabis lab dismantled in San José after a 911 family call
After a 911 alert in Corazón de Jesús, San José, Costa Rican police found cannabis on a table, then raided a controlled-environment grow on 10 September 2026, detaining five people and seizing 53 plants and more than 3.8 kg of processed marijuana.

Six held as Costa Rica stops two narco-boats with cocaine, marijuana
Costa Rican coast guards detained six men aboard two go-fast boats off Bahía Ballena de Osa on 9 July 2026, including three men on a second boat carrying cocaine and marijuana. The first boat held more than 2.5 tonnes of cocaine presumed bound for the United States, while no separate cannabis weight was published.

Two Nicaraguans held off Matapalo with 1,940 marijuana packs
Costa Rican coast guards intercepted a 36-foot speedboat about 120 nautical miles off Playa Matapalo, Quepos, and arrested two Nicaraguan crew members. The Drug Control Police later counted 1,940 packages of marijuana weighing about one kilogram each, plus one kilogram of cocaine.

Costa Rica and DEA seize 3,548 kg of marijuana from a boat off Matapalo
On the night of 20 January 2026 Costa Rican drug police and the Coast Guard, with DEA support, intercepted a go-fast boat about 40 nautical miles southwest of Cabo Matapalo and seized 6,452 marijuana packages weighing 3,548 kg. Three Colombian crew members were detained and the vessel Monarca CP01 was towed to Golfito.
