The Ministry of Public Security reported that officers destroyed 120,945 cannabis plants across 35 plots in the mountainous Alta Talamanca area of Telire, Limón.[1][2]

It estimated that the plots covered about 19,000 square metres, while plants ranged from 15 centimetres to 2.57 metres tall.[1][2] The reports name Alto and Bajo Bley, Lagunas de Alto Bley and Cerro Xorbata as sites of the operation.[1][2]

Officers from the Drug Control Police (PCD), Air Surveillance Service (SVA), Border Police and the Public Force’s Police Intervention Unit took part.[1][2] AM Prensa reported that officers worked for ten days to locate and destroy the plots, walking for hours through difficult mountain terrain in adverse weather.[1]

The ministry also supplied photographs and video from the campaign, and AM Prensa carried remarks from PCD director Stephen Madden.[1] The five images attached to Diario Extra show cannabis plants in wooded plots, including officers wearing PCD insignia among them.[2]
