Costa Rica’s Fuerza Pública, the national police, detained a man in Grecia, Alajuela, who was allegedly carrying marijuana, cocaine and crack, along with cash.[1] In Palmares, officers seized marijuana, cocaine and crack, a less-lethal weapon and ₡655,000 (Costa Rican colones) in cash.[2]

The operation deployed 1,500 officers from 17:00 on Friday.[2] The force announced increased controls at cemeteries, bars, temples and commercial sites for Halloween and the Día de la Mascarada Costarricense, a day of cultural events and gatherings in different communities.[2] The force said it organized the deployment because the two celebrations coincide.[2] It planned to keep the operation running until Sunday 1 November, with reinforced vigilance at sites where crowds were expected.[2] Raúl Rivera, director general of the Fuerza Pública, said in a video message that the force had deployed a major operation to keep order during the celebrations.[2]
