A Lebanese army unit destroyed a marijuana crop covering about 9,700 square meters in the Zarzir and Ainata areas of Baalbek, the army said on 1 November 2026.[1][2][3][4][5] The army’s Directorate of Orientation said the unit had worked to destroy the planted area in the two locations.[6][7][5] The army’s English statement put the crop at an estimated 9,700 square meters in Zarazir and Aainata, in Baalbek.[8] That is about 0.97 hectares, or roughly 9.7 Lebanese dunams of 1,000 square meters.[1][4]

The army gave no count of plants, weight of cannabis or value for the crop.[1] It named no owner, cultivator or suspect, and reported no arrests or charges.[1] It did not say whether the crop was cut, burned or uprooted.[6]

Zarzir and Ainata lie in the Baalbek district.[1][3][5] The army did not say how the planted area was divided between the two areas.[1] No deaths or injuries were reported.[1]
