Army destroys 180 dunums of cannabis near Hermel

The Lebanese Army commandโs Directorate of Orientation announced on 26 October 2026 that a unit had destroyed about 180 dunums (18 hectares) of cannabis in the Jabab al-Hamr area of Hermel, in the Baalbek-Hermel governorate.[1] The army estimated the seized crop at about 60 tonnes.[1]
The Sobhiye newsletter, summarising the announcement the next day, confirmed the 180-dunum, 60-tonne figures for the Hermel destruction.[2] It added that troops in Brital arrested a wanted man suspected of leading a kidnapping and robbery gang, seizing a rocket-propelled grenade and drugs at his home.[2]
The armyโs own statement likewise reports the BritalโBaalbek raid, saying troops detained the wanted man at his home after surveillance and monitoring.[1]
