Armed men fired on Mexican Army personnel and later on state police officers in Uruapan, Michoacán, and two of those implicated were detained in a joint federal-state operation.[1] Michoacán’s public security ministry said the two men were detained through coordinated action by Guardia Civil agents and Defence Ministry personnel over a gun attack on soldiers in the early hours of Monday in Uruapan.[1] The attack happened on Calzada Benito Juárez in the Mártires de Uruapan neighbourhood, where soldiers on surveillance patrols were shot at from inside a house and called for support.[1] Officers of the Guardia Civil’s Special Operations Group (GOE) and Motorized Immediate Reaction Group (GRIM) went to the address, where more shots were fired from the house.[1]

Officers entered the building and detained the two men, who resisted during the police action.[1] At the scene the authorities seized a short 9 mm firearm, 22 live cartridges, one fired cartridge case, about 12 grams of green herb with marijuana characteristics, and two mobile phones.[1] A second account lists the same seizure, including approximately 12 grams of green herb with marijuana characteristics.[2]

The two detainees and all seized items were handed over to the competent authorities for the investigation into the attack on military personnel.[1] The published official information covers only the detentions and the items seized, with no additional charges detailed against the two men.[2]
