Syria’s anti-narcotics directorate said it had foiled an international
drug-smuggling attempt in the eastern countryside of Sweida governorate.[1]
The directorate, the Interior Ministry body responsible for drug enforcement,
announced the operation on its Telegram channel on Saturday 29 August 2026.[1]
It said officers seized and confiscated 138 kg of hashish and 382,000 narcotic
pills.[2] The drugs were in the possession of groups outside the law in the
governorate, it said.[2]
No arrests were announced, and the directorate did not name anyone it is seeking
over the shipment.[3] It said its services were continuing investigations and
security follow-up to identify and pursue those involved, so that the necessary
judicial measures could be taken against them.[1]
The directorate described the operation as a carefully conducted security
operation and called the smuggling attempt international.[1] The announcement
gave no destination for the shipment and no value for the drugs.[1]
