Police achieved a major success on a tip-off from confidential sources, arresting six people with about 50 kg of ganja at Sonarpur on the outskirts of Kolkata; three of those arrested are women, and all are residents of Malda.[1]
The gang’s aim was to bring ganja from Malda and sell it across South 24 Parganas, and Sonarpur police with the Baruipur police district’s Special Operations Group had been watching the Kalikapur area in advance.[1] The six arrived by local train from Sealdah on Tuesday and got off at Kalikapur station, planning to hand over the ganja by the road at an empty spot in Kalikapur; police raided as buyers and sellers met and arrested both sides together.[1]
The seized ganja was confiscated, a narcotics case was registered, and the six were produced in Alipore court on Wednesday; police are examining whether anyone else belongs to the whole racket.[1]
