Police in Semikarakorsky district, Rostov Oblast, detained a 51-year-old man on suspicion of illegally cultivating cannabis and storing drugs at his homestead.[1][2][3] A court remanded him in custody, and the investigation is continuing.[1]

During a search of his property, officers found greenhouses in the yard where he had planted cannabis and seized 27 cannabis bushes.[4][2][3] Officers also found a ready batch of marijuana stored in the attic of an outbuilding, along with scales and packing materials.[1][2] An expert examination identified the seized substances as a plant-based narcotic drug with a combined mass of more than 1.2 kilograms.[4][2]

Police said the man had bought cannabis seeds online, planted them in greenhouses in his own yard, tended the seedlings, then gathered parts of the plants, dried them and stored the marijuana for his own use.[5][3] The Semikarakorsky district police investigation department opened criminal cases under part 1 of article 231 of the Criminal Code for illegal cultivation and part 2 of article 228 for illegal storage of narcotics.[4]
