Moroccan security services thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt
on Saturday, seizing more than eight tons of cannabis at the Safi maritime
port.[1][2]
A DGSN statement said the operation seized 199 bales prepared for
international smuggling via sea routes, hidden in a Morocco-registered cargo
truck intercepted shortly after entering the Atlantic port.[1] The drugs
were bound for shipment abroad by sea.[2]
Police arrested 21 people aged 24 to 48 over suspected involvement with the
trafficking network; the investigation had run for weeks on information about
a planned large-scale operation, and those arrested faced judicial inquiry
into the network’s full extent.[1][2]
