Morocco says its illegal cannabis fields have shrunk by 85 percent

The interior ministry's 2025 performance report put illegal cannabis cultivation at 20,627 hectares, down from about 134,000 hectares in 2003. It presented the fall as part of its supply-reduction strategy alongside the legal programme. The area remains far larger than the 3,141 hectares in legal production that year, and the figure is a government estimate rather than an independent survey.
