The Ivanovsky District Court in Ivanovo Oblast sentenced a local man to three
years and six months in a strict-regime colony.[1] He was convicted of
illegally acquiring and storing drugs in a large amount.[1] The man, a
resident of Ivanovsky District, had bought cannabis seeds and fitted out a room
in his own house to grow the plants.[2] He grew them, made marijuana and kept
the drug and parts of the plants for personal use, without intent to sell.[2]
He was taken into custody in the courtroom.[2]
He had previously been convicted of attempted drug dealing.[1] Despite his
guilty plea, remorse and cooperation with the investigation, the court treated
his dangerous recidivism, a repeat-offender category, as an aggravating
circumstance.[2] The verdict has not yet entered into force.[1]
He was convicted under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Russian Criminal Code.[1]
