A special NDPS court in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, sentenced Varun Singh to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment for trafficking more than 103 kg of ganja.[1][2][3] Judge Ashwani Kumar Chaturvedi also fined him 1.50 lakh rupees (₹150,000).[1][2][3] The court convicted him under section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act, India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, after a trial in which the prosecution produced 14 witnesses and 65 documents.[4][2]

Chakradharnagar police arrested Singh on 10 September 2023 after stopping him on the Nawapali main road in Raigarh district.[1][2][3] A search found 103.150 kg of ganja packed in 20 packets, and he could produce no permit for transporting it.[1][2] Police registered crime number 452/2023 under section 20(b) of the NDPS Act and took him into custody.[1] They identified him as a resident of CCL Colony, ward 12, Baikunthpur in Koriya district, then aged 32.[1][3]

Inspector Prashant Rao Aher, then station house officer at Chakradharnagar, led the investigation.[1][2][3] Raigarh superintendent of police Shashi Mohan Singh has told station heads across the district to investigate drug cases without error and to make sure witnesses appear in court on time.[1][3]

Special public prosecutor Ved Prakash Patel argued the case for the prosecution.[3]
