A special NDPS court in Raipur sentenced truck driver Irfan Sa Diwan to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on 27 October 2026.[1][2] The court fined him ₹2 lakh and ordered six more months of rigorous imprisonment if he does not pay.[1][2] Diwan, 32, is from Bhobha Tekari village in Borsad, Anand district, Gujarat.[1] The court acquitted him of a separate conspiracy charge.[3][2]

On 1 April 2025, a security guard at the Real Ispat Company in Urla, Raipur, told police that cannabis was hidden in the tool box of a truck that had come to load goods.[4][2] Officers opened the box and found four white plastic sacks of cannabis.[3][2] The load weighed 40.545 kg.[3][2] Police seized the cannabis and the truck, and arrested Diwan after he could not show documents for possessing or transporting it.[3][2] Police estimated the cannabis was worth about ₹4.05 lakh.[4]

Diwan told police he was promised ₹1,000 for every kilogram he carried from Odisha, and that an auto driver gave him four sacks between Angul and Goganda on the night of 28 March 2025.[1] He denied the allegations.[5] His counsel told the High Court of Chhattisgarh that he was only the driver, that the truck’s owner had fled the spot, and that he had no knowledge of the cannabis.[5] The High Court refused his second bail application.[5]

Special Judge (NDPS Act) Shailesh Sharma delivered the judgment.[2]
