A 30-year-old Chilean man was arrested when detectives of the PDI, Chile’s investigative police, searched two homes in the La Vara and Alerce sectors of Puerto Montt on 28 October 2026 under two court warrants.[1] The man already had a record for drug trafficking.[1][2] He was placed at the disposal of the courts for his control de detención, the hearing at which a judge reviews the arrest.[1][3]

In the yard of one of the homes, officers found a bag holding a large number of bags of cannabis sativa.[1][2] The head of the Puerto Montt anti-narcotics brigade, Subprefect Pedro Torres, said the load was 26 packages weighing about 27 kg.[1] The PDI valued the marijuana at 217 million pesos.[1][2] Officers also seized a press for making cannabis resin and a vehicle used in the crime.[1][2]

Torres said the investigation was run jointly with the Sacfi unit of the Los Lagos prosecutor’s office.[1] He said the inquiry remained sealed because further steps were pending.[1] He said the man took delivery of the drug in his own vehicle and distributed it to different parts of Puerto Montt.[1] The PDI said the operation, named Reflejo, followed investigative work that identified a man who bought consignments of illegal drugs, stored them and sold them in the area.[4]

The investigation, which lasted a month, established that he received the drugs he distributed in Puerto Montt from the Metropolitan Region.[2] At his formalización, the hearing at which prosecutors formally lay charges, the man was remanded in pre-trial detention on a drug-trafficking charge while investigators sought possible links with others distributing drugs in Llanquihue province.[2]
