A 17-year-old boy in Puducherry, a union territory in southern India, was
growing a cannabis plant, known locally as ganja, in a flower pot at his home
near Thirukkanur, Maalai Malar reported.[1]
Dinamalar said the boy was from Lingareddipalayam, under Katterikuppam police
station.[2] Maalai Malar said he was from Katterikuppam village, near
Thirukkanur.[1] Acting on a tip, Katterikuppam police and officers of the
narcotics prohibition wing, the police unit that handles drug cases, went to the
house, seized the potted plant and registered a case against the boy, Dinamalar
said.[2] Maalai Malar reported that the officers pulled the plant up by its
roots and destroyed it.[1]
Thirukkanur police and the narcotics wing also went to the scene, Dinamalar
said.[2] There they found a second cannabis plant growing by itself on an
empty plot, at K.R. Palayam according to Maalai Malar, and seized it.[1]
Police were investigating the plant, Dinamalar said.[2]
