On 9 July 2026 the Volta Regional Police Command, working with the national Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), raided the Peki-Dzake enclave in South Dayi district after intelligence on cannabis grown at remote sites.[1]

About 60 officers from the DLEU, Police Intelligence Directorate, SWAT, regional defence force, highway patrol and criminal investigations took part under Chief Superintendent Mick Omari Boakye and DLEU director DSP Richard Dotsey Gablah.[1] They found and destroyed 11 large farms; mature plants were cut and burned in a controlled burn so fire would not spread to nearby bush.[1]

Volta police public affairs officer Chief Inspector Francis Gomado said no one was arrested because people tending the farms spotted the team on the difficult approach and escaped before officers reached them.[1] DSP Gablah told the Ghana News Agency the command had destroyed about eight acres (roughly 3.2 hectares) of suspected Indian hemp at Peki Dzake and would keep up intelligence-led work against cultivation and trafficking.[2]

Modern Ghana published a photograph of officers at one of the cleared farms with its report.[1]
