After a tip-off, officers from the Police High Risk Operations Directorate arrested six men aged 25 to 32 at Kyerematen in the Eastern Region.[1] They were held for allegedly cultivating cannabis at Nsuta Aperade in Okere district and Nsuta Hasi in Yilo Krobo municipality, on farms reached through forest, rivers and steep slopes.[1]
Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) then moved in and burned the plantations.[1] Investigators said long power cables fed electric bulbs used to raise seedlings in cups before transplant, and that some sites had structures with air conditioning and other equipment.[1] Dr Samuel Antwi Akomea, director of the Police High Risk Operations Training Centre, said the two locations held about seven acres of cannabis and that operators had wired power illegally to boost an “amnesia” strain suited to artificial light.[1]
Angel Online reported on 15 June that CID and NACOC had destroyed about ten acres at Apraade–Nsuta in Okere and Nsuta–Havie in Yilo Krobo during the same crackdown, with six suspects arrested while mature crops were cleared so they could not be processed.[2] Akomea warned that intelligence-led destruction of farms would continue across the region.[1][2]
