Drug Law Enforcement Unit officers from the Eastern Region CID, with the Police Intelligence Directorate and other units, destroyed cannabis covering six acres at Akyeremanteng in Yilo Krobo municipality.[1][2] The work followed the arrest of one suspect on Monday 15 June 2026; he led officers to the farms on 16 June, Bryt FM reported.[2]

On two plots of two and four acres, police burned the crop.[1][2] Investigators found illegal underground connections to the national electricity grid and irrigation systems.[1][2] Other people suspected of cultivating the drug escaped into nearby bush after residents alerted them to the police approach.[1][2]

Dr Samuel Antwi Akomea, director of the Ghana Police High Risk Operations Training Centre, told Asaase Radio the area was a major cultivation hub and that similar operations would continue.[1] Eastern Regional Operations Commander Agyare Okyere said intelligence work against the network would go on.[1] The suspect was expected to face prosecution in court.[1]

Asaase Radio published a photograph of officers at one of the sites.[1]
