Officers of the Payakumbuh drug squad arrested two men in two roadside stops on the night of Friday 30 October 2026, seizing methamphetamine, known locally as sabu, and dried cannabis.[1][2] The first stop was at about 19:20 WIB on the roadside in the Kelurahan Padang Sikabu neighbourhood, where officers detained FD, 23.[1][2] There they seized nine packets of dried cannabis with a gross weight of 100 grams, one packet of methamphetamine weighing 0.62 grams gross, Rp227,000 in cash and other items.[3][2] The second stop was on the roadside in front of the Padang Tangah Balai Nan Duo village office, where police arrested DF, 36.[3][2] A search of DF found three packets of methamphetamine with a gross weight of 0.33 grams, Rp170,000 in cash and other items.[4]

Police called both men repeat offenders, or residivis, in the same kind of case and said they had been on their target list.[3][2] Drug squad head AKP Gusmanto called both men dealers in the local drug trade.[4][2]

Both were held at the Payakumbuh district police headquarters for further investigation.[1][2] They were accused under Article 114(1) of the 2009 Narcotics Law, a charge that carries a maximum of 20 years in prison.[4][2] Gusmanto said Payakumbuh’s position on an inter-provincial route was one reason the area needed watching.[3][2] He asked residents to report suspected drug activity in their neighbourhoods.[3]
