In Pakhtaabad district in Uzbekistan’s Andijan region, officers detained two men as they sold almost 2 kg of hashish to a conditional buyer, an undercover participant used for a staged controlled purchase, for $18,000.[1] The suspects, born in 1988 and 1995, were caught red-handed at the moment of the sale.[1] Law enforcement accounts said the men actively resisted the officers during the detention and attempted to flee the scene.[2]

The joint operation was conducted by officers of the Border Troops of the State Security Service (SGB), Uzbekistan’s state security agency, together with the SGB’s regional department and the internal affairs department.[1] Officers seized 1 kg 971 g of hashish, the exact weight recorded for the consignment, from the suspects.[2] The sellers had offered that consignment to the conditional buyer for $18,000.[2]

A criminal case was opened against the detainees under Article 273 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code.[2] The authorities remanded both men in custody as a preventive measure.[2] Investigative actions were still under way.[1]
